5 Tax Dodging Celebrities
Monday 19th April 2010You could be mistaken for thinking that Hollywood stars are above debt problems. They earn millions for cameo TV appearances and have access to teams of the best financial advisers, yet rich and famous does not automatically equal financially savvy and recently a number of celebs have hit headlines for being caught up in all kinds money woes, from tax evasion to bankruptcy. Here Debt Management Today lists the most recent financial casualties…
1. Pamela Anderson
She may be a goddess in Baywatch heaven but there’s one man Pammie can’t wrap her finger around - Uncle Sam. She may want to save her earnings from her recent appearance on the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, ‘Dancing with the Stars’, to pay off some of the $493,144 owed to the state of California.
2. Nicolas Cage
The moody actor is unloading properties onto the market in order to set straight the $14 million owed after years of mismanagement from his business advisor. The hefty sum may not be Gone In 60 Seconds, but the star is doing his best to eradicate the debt; he sold his home in Las Vegas, and is trying to rid of his Bel Air mansion.
3. Wesley Snipes
Off screen, on screen, Snipes is on the wrong side of the law. The sunglasses-sporting action hero used every excuse Under The Rising Sun to avoid paying $2.7 million owed to the taxman. The courts stopped the money train in 2008 and Snipes was jailed for 3 years. Released on a $1 million bond while his attorney’s made an appeal, he’s still waiting for a ruling – bet that stuck the Blade in!
4. Prince
The artist formerly (and currently) known as Prince owed the state of Minnesota $227,000, as well as his company, PRN Music, another $450,000 in taxes. He owes a further three-quarter of a million under his real name- Prince R. Nelson- looks like more pauper than Prince…
5. Burt Reynolds
More ‘tache than cash, this movie legend owed $225,000 in taxes to the state of California, as of last year.
