Consumers more open about their debt
Tuesday 27th May 2008A new survey has revealed that people in the UK are more open about their debt problems.
Research by IVA.co.uk found a quarter of people discussed their problem debt with friends or family, with Londoners being the most likely to open up about their difficulties.
Additionally, women were found to be more likely to talk about their personal debt, with 28 per cent admitting to having done so compared to just a quarter of men.
IVA.co.uk spokesman Andy Davie said he believes the stigma attached to people having debts is changing and the figures reflect this.
"As more and more Britons struggle with their finances, it is becoming acceptable to say I have a problem with debt. Many people are investigating the possible solutions open to them but rely heavily on the advice that they receive," he said.
IVA.co.uk is an online community for information and advice about Individual Voluntary Agreements.
