Wednesday 10th March 2010The Office of Fair Trading has announced that it is looking to hire a so-called ‘Internet Investigator’ to delve into online scams and make the Internet a safer place for the public.

The sought-after Internet Investigator will be heading up a team to target websites containing false, misleading or deceptive information, mass marketing spam emails, illicit spyware, adware and malware applications and the illegal use of consumers' private information.
Describing the ideal application, the OFT stated: “You need to be proficient enough to build an internet lab and its networks, and to get up to speed with the laws and statutory powers needed to maintain the integrity of your investigations. You also need the communication and leadership skills to coach and inform your team, and to liaise with a wide range of people, internally and externally.
“The work will often take you to the premises of those under investigation, so you need a presence and a thoroughness that befits this.”
For more information on the role, the OFT has pointed potential candidates towards the full job description and person specification (pdf 89kb).
