New credit report service available for first time buyers
Wednesday 5th May 2010With this Thursday’s election set to be the closest contested in history, financial experts have warned first time buyers that no matter who moves into Number 10 Downing Street this week, there will still be hurdles in obtaining a mortgage.
Despite a possible change of political party, banks and other lenders are set to remain restricted in what type of borrower they extend finance to.
CreditReportAdvice, an independent service designed to take the confusion out of checking your credit report, has urged first-time buyers to ensure that the information on their credit report is accurate and up to date before putting in that important application.
Founder and director Helen Lord has spent over 20 years working with consumers at the credit reference agency Experian and says that she understands the frustrations people face when trying to resolve credit report issues.
She said: “Getting hold of your credit report is the easy bit. What people then want is a professional, personal and prompt service to deal with any queries they have. They want any inaccuracies on their report to be put right quickly. This is often the difficult part and it’s where we come in.”
CreditReportAdvice doesn’t produce credit reports – with Helen stating that that’s the job of the credit reference agencies and they are independent from all of them – instead they concentrate on making sure that customers have an accurate credit report, which they fully understand.
The firm works by helping people get a copy of their credit report from every credit reference agency, and then going through it to explain what the information means. This is all done for free, but if there are inaccuracies the firm offers impartial, one-on-one advice for a fee.
Helen adds: “We provide help and analysis of your credit report by email or, if you want personal contact, by phone – and you speak to a real person, not an automated system.”
